DANCE TEACHERS:

Are you sick of inconsistency in the Ballet classroom?

Feeling like you don’t really know if the students are learning ballet material that is age appropriate for them? Would you like a clear set of guidelines to help you and parents know you are seeing results the students are putting in the dance classroom?

Most ballet teachers are shoved into a dance classroom because they have been trained as a dancer, but not as a teacher.

The pedagogy of teaching dance has developed over time. Students who suddenly become teachers without learning how to teach has been the standard of the average dance studio. But, that’s not what you want for your studio. You want a standard that has clear indicators of student growth creating an environment of self-disciplined, inspired students who know they’ve grown and can’t wait to learn what the next season has to offer. At least this is what I wanted.

ARE YOU READY FOR CHANGE?

ARE YOU TIRED OF NOT FEELING CONFIDENT IN THE CLASSROOM?

Second-guessing yourself every time you step in front of your students, wondering if you're saying or doing the right thing?

Struggling to keep your students engaged and focused, feeling like you're constantly repeating yourself?

Worrying that your teaching style isn’t effective enough, leaving you questioning if you're truly making an impact?

Feeling overwhelmed trying to plan lessons that are both structured and fun—without spending hours outside of class?

Getting frustrated when students don’t follow instructions, but not knowing how to correct them positively?

Comparing yourself to other teachers, wondering how they make it look so effortless while you feel stuck in self-doubt?

I’m Andrea Wood, a former professional dancer, who found a love for teaching through the pain of hating it at first.

Andrea Wood has a passion to touch the heart of God through dance and to see the character of God’s children grow through the discipline of the arts. Growing up in the performing atmosphere of the former Macomb Ballet Center, she was privileged to be on stage with American Ballet Theater, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Twyla Tharp in minor roles. Her love for dance grew at summer intensives from Ballet Magnificat, Colorado Ballet, Ballet Met and American Ballet Theater. Her training in Vaganova Ballet technique continued form childhood into adulthood through various scholarships to Western Michigan University and Oakland University where she graduated Magna Kum Laude. She was awarded the Jacob Decker Outstanding Performer Award at OU and danced as an apprentice with the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble while working as an instructor for local studios and programs like Jack’s place for Autism. She has been teaching for over 25 years and is certified through Discipleship Institute of Biblical Studies from Christ Community Church. Now, Andrea pursues the dream placed in her heart to minister the love of God through teaching dance, scripture and prayer to her students at Christian Arts Academy.

I had the privilege of using the teaching curriculum this year. Because of it, I was completely prepared to step into the classroom. As a new teacher, I felt a little lost in lesson planning. So, when I was able to use this well designed, age-appropriate curriculum, I felt confident and ready to teach.

This curriculum is very helpful and it has made me more confident in knowing what to do... having a set curriculum for lessons has really helped me in the prep time for classes in a way that I struggled with before... and it doesn't feel to repetitive because each year I am able to teach the same stuff a slightly different way... but it also helps me feel confident that the kids are getting the right stuff and the level is learning what it needs to learn... it has just all around been a huge help!
